Project Title: Social Support in Sport

INVITATION

You are being asked to take part in a research study on social support in sport. My name is Christopher Hartley, and my study is part of an MSc postgraduate dissertation with the University of Stirling. This study is being supervised by Dr. Pete Coffee from the School of Sport. This study has been reviewed and approved by the University of Stirling’s School of Sport Ethics Committee. The data you provide will be kept anonymously, and you will not be personally identifiable from the data you provide.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN

In this study, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire. The first set of questions will ask you about some basic demographic information, and the nature of your sporting habits. The second set of questions will ask you about the support available to you in sport. You will then be asked how satisfied you felt with this support. The last set of questions will assess how this impacts upon your self-confidence and feelings surrounding your sport.

TIME COMMITMENT

The study typically takes around 10 minutes to complete.

PARTICIPANTS’ RIGHTS

You may decide to stop being a part of the research study at any time without explanation. You have the right to ask that any data you have supplied to that point be withdrawn/destroyed and without penalty. If you have completed/partially completed the questionnaire and wish to have your data removed and destroyed, please contact the investigator. You have the right to omit or refuse to answer or respond to any question that is asked of you. You have the right to have your questions about the procedures answered. If you have any questions as a result of reading this information sheet, you should email the investigator before you begin the study.

There are no known benefits or risks for you in this study.

COST, REIMBURSEMENT AND COMPENSATION

Your participation in this study is voluntary.

CONFIDENTIALITY/ANONYMITY

The data we collect do not contain any personal information about you. Your participation in this study will not be identifiable from the data you provide. The data collected from this study will only be used in the analysis and write-up of this study. If the material is of publishable standard, it may be put forward for publication.
